MR. MAYNARD READING

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN DORE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES!

Saturday, August 26, 2017
Dear Dore Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the final days of summer and preparing for the new school year. It is with great difficulty that I am announcing that I have decided to leave John C. Dore for a different teaching opportunity in Chicago Public Schools. After much decompression and reflection this summer, I came to terms with what I had been feeling for a while, that it was simply time for a change and a new challenge. Amazingly, I have never worked anywhere longer than my time at Dore. For the past five years, Dore School has allowed me to do what I love, teach, and none of it would be possible without the parents who gave me the honor to work with their children.  I can only hope that I impacted each and every child I taught in some way, and know that the children had a far greater impact on me. It has been my pleasure to be a part of this community, working with supportive parents and awesome kids who made me laugh, think, and ultimately grow as a teacher, and more importantly, a person. I leave with pride, knowing that I cared about every child who ever entered my classroom, not only as students but as people.

While this may be a conclusion to my time at Dore School, I do not consider it a farewell. Teaching is all about relationships, and I look forward to staying in contact with Dore parents, students and future graduates. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future ([email protected]) about anything, from simply saying hello and providing academic and athletic updates to asking for high school references and seeking advice. I am confident that every Dore student has the potential to succeed in life and develop into productive citizens and well-adjusted adults.

In closing, I will refer to our popular fifth-grade novel, The Mighty Miss Malone, which begins with the following: “We are a family on a journey to a place called WONDERFUL.” With that in mind, I wholeheartedly thank everyone for welcoming me into the Dore family five years ago and taking me on a WONDERFUL JOURNEY. I will miss but never forget ALL of you.
Sincerely,
Mr. Maynard
P.S. Here is a beautiful song for the next part of our journeys.
Seriously, don't be strangers, former students.
I want to hear about your journeys. :-)
